Was That A Gunshot?

When you are RV camping you never know what is going to happen. A few months ago, my wife and I were heading out on our latest camping adventure to Bedford Village Campground in Bedford, Pennsylvania. My wife was driving the motor home, and I was driving our jeep. We do not usually drive separately but we had just purchased the Jeep Gladiator, and the towing gear had not been installed to pull it behind the motor home.

We were cruising along Interstate 70 near Hagerstown, Maryland, when my wife called me and said there was something that sounded like a gunshot! We stopped to investigate the situation and discovered that a large stone had been kicked up and hit the center of the windshield, leaving a one-inch pitted spot behind with cracks extending further out from the center of the damaged area. I can clearly remember thinking this is going to be expensive! We continued to our destination and set up for camping.

The next day we called Coach-Net to help us find someone to replace the windshield. Coach-Net was very helpful and connected us with someone who started the process of getting our windshield replaced. They worked with our insurance company to get most of the replacement. We had a $1000 deductible to pay once the windshield was installed.

We have a Thor Aria and the windshield was ordered it took about 2 months before the windshield was delivered to the installer. The installers came to our home and installed the windshield. It took about four hours for the installation to be completed.

The next time we went camping we noticed that there were 3 places where water was running down the inside of the windshield. We called the installer, and they came back and addressed the leak by adding sealant around the perimeter of the windshield.

We have had a very unusual dry spell in Maryland this fall and we have not had any rain since the windshield was installed. Now, we just have to wait and see what happens when it rains.

Don’t forget to check back for an update.
